I'm not a regular yoga practitioner, probably because I haven't found the right style yet, but I must say that I like working along side the YEM DVD you produced. I had bought the YEM CD back in 2004 and liked doing even just the relaxation portion of it after I got home from a long day at the office. I felt I graduated when I got the DVD.

I love your blogs and look forward to the next one.Sunanda Jordonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01759402320377540081noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5452645648437706747.post-19119951744170663842011-04-19T08:53:24.884-04:002011-04-19T08:53:24.884-04:00Great post, and one I can actually relate to witho...Great post, and one I can actually relate to without having to ask "WTF is Parvati talking about?" I've been practicing Kripalu-style yoga for some 20 years but have actually stopped looking for yoga classes and shopping for yoga studios, and now mostly practice at home, sometimes using old Kripalu tapes from the early 1990s when the place was still an ashram with a full-time guru. Even if the teacher was good (and I have met a number of good ones over the years - unfortunately a couple excellent old-school Kripalu teachers who have passed away), I didn't feel comfortable or grounded in a lot of yoga classes, in some cases being the token guy, and in many cases being surrounded by young, nubile women in revealing shorts, tank tops or clingy Lululemon gear.Kevalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03007400719415900824noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5452645648437706747.post-57518471419889149162011-04-18T18:15:05.712-04:002011-04-18T18:15:05.712-04:00Thank you for your comments. As a fierce, competitive pitta-vata type who first came to yoga through Ashtanga because I wanted "a good workout", I find your examples quite relevant. Interestingly enough, the day I completed primary series for the first time at the ashtanga yoga shala is the day I went to see Amma for the first time. From there, my ashtanga practice disintegrated, stopping entirely when I got my mantra from Amma four months later. I see now that it was amplifying energies in me that were actually taking me off-path, and I consider it grace that I was guided away from a practice which was not correct for my constitution. I wonder what might have flowered for me if I'd decided to take up Kripalu or Sivananda yoga instead, but the reality is that I was so attached to Ashtanga that I actually looked down on other forms of yoga as less authentic and kind of wussy. (An indication of what energies were being amplified by the way I was doing ashtanga...) Ashtanga was enough to awaken my interest in Eastern spirituality, which is the path that eventually led to Amma, so ultimately it served its purpose. Still, I wonder what it would have been like to have had yoga classes that truly cultivated "a humble relationship to the cosmos that exists as a guiding force within ourselves, expressed within our body".
These days, the time I have available for spiritual practice mostly goes to other practices than yogasanas, though I do the simple asana sequence in the IAM meditation and I occasionally practice from your YEM DVD (which I love). I actually use the grounding and centering practices you teach on that DVD, to help me stay in my body when I'm around Amma at a busy program and feeling overloaded (which tends to make me become ungrounded). It helps me to remain present and truly receive the grace of the moment.Pranadahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08602387063784879219noreply@blogger.com
